Trip 2 to Duntroon

Good morning, Herringbelles and Beaux,

What a morning…..only 10 more weeks of winter !  Let’s enjoy it by going to Highlands Nordic in Duntroon this Wednesday: $14 for skiing and $10 for snowshoeing.Duntroon

See you on the bus,  Christa

Add skating to your winter routine?

A note from member Donald Chu:
“If you are into distance skating, the double rink at Otter Creek is available Sundays, 9 am to 11:45 am.

“Great for doing laps, getting some cardio and staying fit for x-ski season.  Otter Creek is located just south of Lawrence Park high school (near Lawrence & Avenue Rd.). Parking and skating is free. The rink has a heated change room with washroom facilities.”

First trip to Horseshoe

Hello HB&B skiers and snowshoers,

Happy New Year and a big WARM welcome to another great season to all members new and old! We must have all been doing the snow dance faithfully,  because we were amply rewarded with the white stuff…..may it continue well into February!

For the benefit of all a few items of information:
1) Parking is again in the east section of the Toronto Botanical Gardens parking lot at Leslie and Lawrence. It continues to be free with the voucher to be handed out on the first Wednesday and to be displayed in your windshield on all following Wednesdays.

Horseshoe2) This week we will go to Horseshoe which despite my best efforts is charging $20 and $12 for ski and snowshoe trail passes. As always, to make collecting on the bus easier,  please bring the right change (this does not mean emptying all the change in your piggy bank 🐷).

3) As you know, the bus leaves promptly at 9:00 a.m.

On behalf of all Herring Belles and Beaux,  my thanks goes to membership secretary Mary, treasurer Hedi, webmaster Gary, as well as the phoners Helga, Pam and Catherine, without whose great contributions there would be no club. Looking forward to seeing you all on the bus,

Christa  (co-ordinator)

Season 2018 about to begin!

Greetings Herring Belles & Beaux,

The committee of membership secretary Mary, treasurer Hedi, webmaster Gary and I have been hard at work to ensure that we have another splendid ski and snowshoe season to enjoy.

The first outing Is scheduled for Wednesday, January 3, 2018.  Like last year,  the bus will leave promptly at 9 a.m. from the parking lot at the Toronto Botanical Gardens on the southwest corner of Lawrence and Leslie.  Please use the east end of the lot (away from the TBG buildings)  and avoid parking near the lot’s outside perimeter.  Parking is again free of charge when you display your pass.

Depending on weather and snow conditions, we will have five Wednesday trips in January and one in February with the possibility of adding another one or two if there is enough interest.

I look forward to seeing you all on the trails and am hoping for a fantastic season of snow with no cancellations !!  That’s asking a lot, but I have been doing the snow dance…. Have you ?

Happy holidays from all of us,
Christa Naylor  (Co-ordinator),
Mary, Hedi and Gary

Start-Up Info for 2018 Wednesday Trips

To all Herring Belles & Beaux:
It’s never too early to plan for our cross-country ski and snowshoe days. Our first trip is Wednesday, January 3, so please join us again and encourage your friends and family to sign up as well. It’s as easy as 1-2-3 — for both returning and new members.

  1. Find information about the 2018 fees (reduced this year as we had a small surplus at the end of last season) at Who We Are.
  2. Read about how to renew or join the club at Join Us.
  3. Complete a copy of the 2018 Membership Form and return it to us by November 24, 2017.

Keep fit and have fun with us. We welcome everyone.
 Mary, Christa and Hedi

Get ready to kick and glide

Greetings, Herringbelles members – both Belles and Beaux.

The unusually beautiful summer is a distant memory as the weekend’s snowfall reminds us of the wonderful ski season to come. (This is not what Gary and I were thinking as we made our way back to Canada via Pearson airport two nights ago !)

Since skiing makes winter special for all of us, let’s embrace it and celebrate a warm welcome back for all returning and new Herringbelles members. The buses are ordered for Jan. 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8, 15 with Feb. 22 and Mar. 1 as spare dates in case of weather cancellations. Parking is arranged free of charge in the east lot at the Toronto Botanical Gardens at Lawrence and Leslie.

As usual the bus will arrive around 8:30 a.m. and leave promptly at 9:00. Destinations are generally announced at the beginning of each week as they are very much dependent on the weather.

To date we have more than 40 full-time members, 8 spares and 1 “one time ” trial, which makes our finances viable for another season. Our phoners Catherine Pitt, Helga Thurow and Pam Roberts have again kindly volunteered to communicate with their assigned members, but will probably have less to do with increased use of emails and the website.

Please keep informed by checking the Herringbelles website so ably produced by webmaster Gary Schlee. In fact, if you have subscribed to the website (as most of you have), you will automatically receive an email notification indicating our destination a few days before each outing.

The transition to new treasurer Hedi Furrer and new membership secretary Mary Wilson  has been very smooth  as they have expertly handled their roles and made my job very easy.

A huge thank-you to all six volunteers mentioned above!!

Wishing you a very happy festive season and hoping for snowy, safe skiing,

Christa Naylor    (Co-ordinator – and parking attendant extraordinaire)
